The idea is to write 150-200 words a day for each prompt and to post it on this blog. At the end of the month, I’ll post the list of prompts if anyone is interested.
Prompt 6: Used tea bags.
Used tea bags.
Mona stepped into the house. Her hands shot up to her nose as her face scrunched up. “The house stinks!” She rushed toward the windows, wanting to throw them open. But they already were. “Diana,” she called out.
Diana’s head peaked out from the kitchen door. “I know,” she said. “It was the dog. She brought in a dead rat. A very dead rat.” And the cat was sick. Everything went wrong that morning.
“Don’t you have any air freshener?”
“That’s what I’m looking for.”
Mona stepped into the kitchen, heading toward the kettle. “Any used tea bags?”
“There should be a few in the tea pot.” Diana watched as her friend collected any tea bags she could find. She felt self-conscious at the number of cups stood waiting to be washed. She always drank too much tea when she was stressed.
“Do you have any string?” Diana looked through the cupboard and handed it to her friend as well as the bottle of lavender oil she asked for. She followed Mona out into the living room, where she started hanging up the doused tea bags.
“What are you doing?”
“They’ll suck up the smell,” Mona said. Diana pointed out where the dead rat had been laying and several tea bags were dumped onto the floor. Mona turned around, smiling. “That should help. Let’s have wine outside today?”
